Loving You Is Easy-weed!

Valentine’s Day is all about spreading the love, so what better way to show that special someone you care by making something handmade?
Even if the gift isn’t handmade, you can always add a personal touch by creating your own gift wrapping using Siser® Easyweed® HTV (heat transfer vinyl). Personalisation is so easy with Siser®!

Below is all you need to get you started.

Materials used:

  • Your choice of fabric
  • Ribbon (for an additional touch)
  • Siser® Easyweed® HTV

Tools used:

  • Siser® EasyWeeder®
  • Siser® Juliet™ or Romeo™
  • Siser® Heat Press or an iron
  • Heat Transfer Sheet or baking paper

The first step is to find your design in Leonardo™ Design Studio (if you don’t already have one, that is). If you don’t, that’s OK! Leonardo™ Design Studio is a great resource for finding designs for almost every occasion. And the best part is that they’re all free to use with your Siser® Juliet™ or Romeo™ cutting machine. Simply head to the Design Library tab in Leonardo™ Design Studio and use the category drop down to narrow your selection or type a keyword into the search bar if you’re after something specific.

Once you have your design selected, a quick tip is to reposition your design elements in Leonardo™ Design Studio to maximise the cutting space and reduce the amount of vinyl you’ll need. You can easily rotate and drag elements to new positions using the tools in the tool bar at the bottom of the Design tab.

Siser® Easyweed® HTV can be cut without a mat, so simply load it into your Siser® Juliet™ or Romeo™ cutting machine shiny side down and use the cut preset for Easyweed® HTV under Presets > HTV > Easyweed. Remember to mirror your design in Leonardo™ Design Studio as you’ll be flipping in order to apply it to your fabric. Then you can get to weeding using your Siser® EasyWeeder® to remove those excess pieces – you’ll be so impressed with how easily this HTV weeds!

Easyweed® is the number one selling vinyl in the Siser® range – and for good reason! Not only does it apply at a lower temperature than competitor material, but it also requires lower pressure setting for application, and it can be layered. It also doesn’t lift during weeding, the backing can be peeled hot or cold, and it’s extremely durable in the wash! Oh, and it also comes in a massive range of 71 colours, including matte options. What more could you want?

After your design is weeded and ready to go, you just need your fabric – and it doesn’t have to be new fabric! Adding Siser® Easyweed® HTV to a scrap of fabric is both a great way add new life to something and also a way to be resourceful when it comes to repurposing. After positioning your design in place, simply add heat! Whether you’re using a Siser® Heat Press or an iron, cover your material with a Heat Transfer Sheet or baking paper and apply medium pressure for 10-15 seconds at 150°C. Once applied, Easyweed® HTV is a hot or cold peel heat transfer vinyl, meaning you can remove the carrier sheet right away or wait for it to cool down. If the design lifts anywhere at all, put the carrier sheet back in place and press for another 5-10 seconds.

That’s all there is to it! Now you have personalised, repurposed fabric that can be used again and again without creating waste. And if you wanted to take it a step further, you can also personalise ribbon using Siser® Easyweed® HTV. Why not decorate a length and creating matching gift wrapping?

If you’re wanting to wash your fabric at all, wait 24 hours after application for the first wash and machine wash warm or cold with mild detergent (liquid fabric softener not recommended). If you’re using a dryer, dry your garment on a normal dryer setting. Do not dry clean.
